Слова «глобальный», «глобализация» у всех на слуху, немного реже говорят о «мировом» (или «всемирном») обществе. Пик моды на эти понятия уже прошел, но глобальные феномены никуда не делись, просто размышлять о них стали по-другому. Электронные коммуникации уничтожили пространство, потому что расстояния для них не важны. Но электронные коммуникации уничтожили и время, которое требовалось для преодоления пространства: теперь не требуется ждать, чтобы весть о важном событии в одной части света достигла людей в другой его части. Все происходит практически одновременно. Но мир не начал жить как огромное сообщество. Границы снова получают значение, снова идут войны за территории, государства и прочие политические единства дают о себе знать там, где, как казалось недавно, учреждается новая всемирная общность. Что же собой представляет современное состояние дел? Находимся ли мы в конце того большого отрезка мировой истории, когда всемирное перестало быть утопией, или речь идет лишь о временном отступлении? Об этом рассуждает Александр Филиппов — доктор социологических наук, руководитель Центра фундаментальной социологии НИУ ВШЭ, главный редактор журнала «Социологическое обозрение», профессор Школы философии НИУ ВШЭ.
